INDIE WEEK launched eleven years ago in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a small event featuring indie acts and giving them the opportunity to perform in front of music industry. Currently INDIE WEEK has grown in size and now runs in Limerick Ireland in April, Toronto in October and is partnering with other festivals to host stages (INDIE WEEK has ran events in Alberta, Halifax, Austin and of course Toronto).
Well the Ireland connection started with a band called Vesta Varro (featuring Damien Drea) coming to Canada from Limerick and were voted best band overall. The following year another band from Limerick called Walter Mitty and the Realists came over and they too were voted best band overall. There seemed to be something about bands from Limerick.
Since then we have showcased Brendan Markham, Maslow, Windings, Hot Neck Blues Collective, Purple Earth Theory, Fox Jaw Bounty Hunters and more.
More recently, a new band called Leading Armies won Indie Week Ireland in 2012, came over to Canada and made a lot of news fans. Since then the band has become one of the leading acts in Limerick and while becoming a band to watch in all of Ireland.
The opportunities keep growing with each year and this year one lucky act will once again get to fly over to Toronto, showcase in front of industry and make a ton of new fans in Canada's city with the largest music industry community.
This is a great opportunity for any band wanting to get a leg up.
But hey, enough from us - here's a video I just found on YouTube from Leading Armies on their experience.
