Donegal band Mojo Gogo were announced winners of Indie Week Ireland 2014 at the final night of the independent music festival in Limerick on Saturday night.
Indie Week Ireland 2014 took place from 23rd - 26th April in Limerick city as part of Limerick City of Culture. In a celebration of independent music the festival programmed forty-five bands to play in four of the city’s leading music venues across four days.
Thirty of the performing bands were competing to win the grand prize of a trip to perform at Indie Week Canada later this year. Judges of the competition included Noel Hogan (The Cranberries), Dave Blundell (Aurovine) and Dr. Aileen Dillane (University of Limerick).
The Chair of the Limerick Independent Music Committee Dr. Eoin Devereux (University of Limerick) says:
“Limerick has literally been rocking for the last 4 days. The success of Indie Week Ireland demonstrated how Limerick has a future in terms of being the true capital of Indie Music in Ireland.”
Winning band Mojo Gogo are an energetic rock and roll band; their blend of emotive lyrics, high on-stage antics and hard guitar won over the judges at Indie Week Ireland. Mojo Gogo have recently returned from a tour of Germany. Interestingly the Donegal band also runs their own music festival on Aranmore Island in August. The band will now be traveling to Canada in October to perform at Indie Week Canada.
Also congratulated on the night were Ennis musician Siomha Brock who took third place and Dublin band She’s a Beauty, who took second place.
Indie Week Ireland was organised by Indie Week and The Limerick Independent Music Committee with support from Limerick City of Culture 2014.
