Indie Week is a twice-annual music festival.
Indie Week is a music festival about truly showcasing independent artists in front of industry.
As an artist-friendly festival, each act is listened to in the selection process and chosen on their musical merits. This means the acts aren’t lost in a giant band stew.
It’s about the music, not the competition. It’s about giving the underdog a chance. It’s about networking, learning, and sharing ideas. It’s about getting a leg up in the near impossible landscape of the music business.
Yes there is a competition element during the festival as industry judges pick the top act of the festival which will be awarded a trip to Toronto, Canada Oct 15-19 to headline at Indie Week Canada!!! We pay for up to 5 flights and accommodations for up to 5 band members / band members only.
This is the 11th year for Indie Week Canada and the 6th year for Indie Week Ireland.
Irish band Vesta Varro (from Limerick) won Indie Week Canada 2007, and the year after, there was a spike in Irish applicants.
Lo and behold, Indie Week Canada 2008 was won by yet another Irish band also from Limerick – Walter Mitty & The Realists.
We decided that there was something about Ireland and Indie Week Ireland was born!
Members of the music industry judge artist showcases with a finals and pick the top act of the festival. But it’s not all about winning – we’ve had judges like other acts and also offer to work with them. It’s up to the band to perform and impress to open the door!
Heavens no! Judging is done quietly and discretely. Bands are sent the judging sheets by email after the festival for feedback.
Many attendees, performers and press have raved about the balance that Indie Week has achieved between festival and competition.
The end result is a fantastic showcase of the ‘Best of the Fest’ at the end of the week.
Pretty much - Acts accepted can be signed to an indie label, an indie label distributed by a major but not acts signed directly to a major label.
We accept acts from most genres : acoustic, solo, folk, rock, alternative, hard rock, metal, eclectic, electronic, punk, hardcore, pop, soft rock.
We are looking for the best!
Indie Week’s long-term goal is to develop an extensive festival network. If you represent a music festival and want to discuss partnership, email Founder/Director Darryl Hurs at email@example.com.
It is up to YOU (the artist) to take advantage of the opportunities we offer.
Many acts have made connections and moved on to work with managers, lawyers, producers, agents – all because of their performance at Indie Week. And yes some have been signed.
We provide the basis, drums minus breakables, bass rig, guitar amp (1-2 depending on venue). The rest is on the bands to provide.
Judges score 1-5 on:
NOTE : INDIE WEEK takes artist judging very seriously and do our best to ensure a fair and equal process.
For sure – especially since we’ll know your manager well after liaising over email leading up to the festival.
Better yet, get them to fill out the Media Accreditation Form and they can get a media pass so they can attend the whole shebang, not just your showcase!
Artists will be notified.
INDIE WEEK exists as a festival for artists to make connections, network, and gain exposure.
But you have to do the work – it is up to you to fully participate and take advantage of these opportunities!
Here are promotional ideas that will help you get the most out of your showcase:
Hire a local publicist that knows the local media to gain interviews, reviews and attention!
Unfortunately no. Revenue goes directly to:
Is this a Cash Grab?
Hell no! SO much work and dedication goes into the festival and making it a great experience for all participants. It costs a lot to run a festival of this size.
It takes a lot of time to go through each application thoroughly, follow links, websites etc.
The application fee also helps by making sure bands are serious when they apply.
Unfortunately no, the application is non-refundable.
BUT – if you apply and aren;t selected, we would be more than happy to give you full passes to attend and network during the festival.
If not selected is there a stand-by list?
YES! We often select acts and because of some of their touring commitments they are not able to make it so we do select other acts from our stand by list.
